Stephen is a State & Local Tax Senior Manager at CBIZ, Inc. He has more than 13 years of state and local tax consulting experience, providing expertise in multistate income and franchise taxes, sales and use taxes, tax controversy including income and sales tax audits, international indirect taxes, credits and incentives, and compliance and filing methodologies. Additionally, Stephen handles the various state and local tax aspects that arise from mergers, acquisitions and restructuring transactions with the firm’s national M&A team.
Stephen advises clients on potential state and local tax risks and exposure while simultaneously identifying tax savings and refund opportunities. He has assisted corporate and passthrough businesses, in determining their state tax nexus exposure, product and service taxability to bring them into compliance. Additionally, Stephen has successfully represented clients before the New Jersey Department of Revenue, the Pennsylvania Board of Appeals, the Pennsylvania Board of Finance and Revenue, the cities of Philadelphia and New York, and numerous other state and local administrative tax agencies.
His industry experience spans e-commerce, SaaS / cloud computing and digital goods, manufacturing, transportation/logistics, professional services. Prior to coming to CBIZ, Stephen has previously held state and local tax positions of increasing responsibility with Deloitte, KPMG, and BDO USA LLP. Stephen regularly publishes articles in national tax journals and has been a frequent speaker on state and local tax issues, including national webinars.
